Laser Hair Removal FAQs

How does laser hair removal work?

The laser emits light energy, which is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicles. This energy heats the follicles and reduces hair growth over time.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Yes, laser hair removal is generally considered safe when performed by trained medical professionals using appropriate settings for your skin and hair type. We carefully assess each patient before treatment to help ensure safety and effectiveness.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Most people describe the sensation as mild discomfort, often compared to the snapping of a rubber band against the skin. Some areas are more sensitive than others, but treatment is generally very tolerable.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies based on factors such as hair color, skin type, hair thickness, hormonal influences, and the treatment area. On average, a series of 8-10 sessions spaced several weeks apart is recommended for the best long-term reduction.

Are the results permanent?

Laser hair removal provides long-lasting hair reduction, but it may not eliminate all hair permanently. Maintenance sessions may be needed over time to address regrowth.

Can laser hair removal be done on any skin type?

Laser hair removal can be performed on a wide range of skin types, but the safest and most effective settings depend on your skin tone, hair color, and the device being used. During your consultation, we assess your skin and hair to determine the most appropriate treatment plan.

What should I do before a laser hair removal session?

Preparing for a session may involve avoiding sun exposure, shaving the treatment area, and refraining from waxing, tweezing, or certain skincare products before treatment. Specific instructions will be provided during your consultation.

Are there any side effects?

Temporary side effects may include redness, mild swelling, or warmth around the follicles, which typically subside within a few hours to a day. More significant side effects are uncommon but will be discussed during your consultation.

Can I resume normal activities after a session?

Yes, most patients can generally resume normal activities immediately after a session. However, it is important to follow post-care instructions and avoid excess heat or sun exposure if advised after treatment.

Why is my hair still growing after 3–4 laser sessions?

Because hair grows in cycles. Some follicles are still inactive during earlier sessions, so full reduction takes multiple treatments, typically 8-10 sessions.

Why do I still have stubble after laser hair removal?

Treated hair does not disappear immediately. Existing hair sheds gradually over 1–3 weeks, which can feel or look like stubble before it falls out.

What if my hair is not shedding after laser treatment?

Shedding can take up to 4-6 weeks. If it does not happen as expected, your provider may reassess the timing, hair cycle, and treatment settings.

Why do I see random patches of hair after laser hair removal?

Different follicles are in different growth stages, so patchy results are common during earlier sessions.

What if I accidentally waxed between sessions?

Waxing removes the hair from the follicle, which makes that cycle less effective for laser treatment. Shaving should be used instead between sessions.

What if I missed my scheduled laser appointment?

Missing a session can slow your progress, but it does not erase the improvement you have already made. We want to keep the scheduled treatments matched with the hair growth cycle (4 weeks or 6 weeks.) For best results, laser hair removal appointments should stay as close to the recommended schedule as possible, ideally within about 3 days before or after your target treatment date.

Why is my underarm or bikini area slower to respond?

These areas are often more hormonally influenced and may require more sessions than other body areas. Hair in the underarm and bikini area can still respond very well, but it is common for those areas to need additional treatments for optimal reduction
